Miki Kawashima

Born in Japan in 1995, Miki Kawashima began studying piano at the age of three. After moving to England in 2010, she resumed her musical education. In 2013, she won first prize at the Farnham Competitive Music Festival, receiving both the Young Musician Award and the June Fielding Bursary. In 2015, she performed with the London Mozart Players.

She studied classical piano under David Kuyken at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where she completed her studies. During her master's program, she specialized in contemporary music, participating in several notable projects such as Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians and Oscar Bettison's 75-minute piece O Death in collaboration with the Klang Ensemble.

With a wide-ranging repertoire that spans from classical to contemporary music, Miki explores the unique expression that each genre offers and integrates these elements into her performances. More recently, she has begun studying harpsichord under Fabio Bonizzoni and basso continuo under Patrick Ayrton, expanding her interest in Baroque music.

Miki is supported by the Dutch Music Fund, which provides her with a Steinway M piano for her performances and musical activities.
