Workshop 'Warne Mata': A conversation about 'home'

During this workshop participants explore their experiences as members of the Indonesian diaspora. This workshop will be held in English.
The Workshop
With a select group of people we explore and gather insights on our experiences as members of the Indonesian diaspora. The workshop will create conversations between the participants that will help us make a script for the characters in a film we are making called 'Warne Mata'.
There is a limited amount of spots available for this workshop. Make sure to reserve a ticket in time!
'Warne Mata' (The Colour of the Eyes): A conversation about 'home'
Warne Mata is an experimental documentary that narrates the journey of Indonesia’s partially repatriated Lombok Treasure through the eyes of its gemstones. The film uses the unique perspectives of each gemstone—ruby, sapphire, emerald, and diamond—to reveal the historical events, cultural dynamics, and everyday lives they have witnessed over time. These gemstones offer a distinctive lens through which we explore the impact of colonialism, exploitation, and displacement.
The Lombok Treasures consist of numerous artefacts, including ceremonial garments, silver, gold, and jewellery embedded with rare gemstones. Stolen by the Dutch VOC from Lombok in 1894 during their colonial rule, these treasures symbolize the profound effects of colonial theft and the subsequent exploitation of the local populace. The film delves into the downfall of the Balinese Karangasem dynasty on Lombok and the layered stories of colonialism that have perpetuated exploitation throughout history.
Discussion Goals:
• To gather personal experiences and stories: We aim to understand how
displacement and living away from one's homeland have affected the lives and
identities of the diaspora.
• To explore themes of cultural identity and belonging: How do these experiences
shape the understanding and connection to cultural heritage?
• To understand perceptions of historical events: How do members of the diaspora
view and interpret significant historical events, such as colonialism and repatriation
efforts?
• To capture authentic voices and narratives: We seek to reflect the genuine voices
and perspectives of the diaspora in the film's narration and dialogue.
We value your unique experiences and insights, and we believe that your participation will
significantly contribute to the authenticity and depth of " Warne Mata." Thank you for
considering this invitation. We look forward to your valuable input.
