Kosten: Gratis

Are you looking for a queer space in which you can be yourself and share experiences and stories with others? Are you looking for a place where you can discuss queer literature? Then the queer book club is the place for you.

For our fifth session we will read…

Trans: A memoir by Juliet Jacques. Juliet Jacques is a writer and journalist who published a series of blog posts for the Guardian newspaper called ‘A Transgender Journey’, which documented her experiences as a trans woman in the UK and documented the arduous process towards her gender-affirming surgery. Trans: A memoir followed from this series of blog posts, and in this book Jacques expands the story of her life as a trans woman. Instead of writing about the process of her transition, she tells the story of her depression, her struggle to find appropriate jobs, and the long wait until she received appropriate healthcare. The memoir turns away from the spectacle of transition, and instead tells the story of the everydayness of trans experiences.

This Book club will be hosted by Looi van Kessel, assistant professor in literary studies and gender studies at Leiden University, who specializes in LGBTQIA+ literature. The sessions will be held in English. Do you want to be a part of the Queer Book Club? Click the button below to register for free!
