Bad Penny Publications creates four seasonal yearly publications. These compact research journals combine reflective writing with reciprocal exercises in the form of workshops. Working together with the public, as well as artists and designers of The Hague. Bad Penny Publications encourages new forms of research by creating a platform where random thoughts and conversations are embraced as a generative process of knowledge production.

For the summer edition, Bad Penny Publications works in and from the Central Library of The Hague during July and August and will create a publication around the theme: Language Love.

What does the unraveling of our tradition of public libraries, so hard-won but now in jeopardy, say about us? During the warmth, business, and loudness of the summer, the cooler library setting will become a space for reflection in this sometimes overwhelming but happier time of the year. With the ever-evolving role of libraries in society, between research centers, and more and more towards community centers, Bad Penny Publications wonders how the whispers between the books of the library, the quietness and stillness in this loud space of words can become a haven for discussions on difficulties in comprehending, whilst embracing the possible beauties in resulting misunderstandings.

Bad Penny Publications: artist in residence

Bad Penny Publications  creëert vier seizoensgebonden jaarpublicaties. Deze compacte onderzoeksbladen combineren reflectief schrijven met wederzijdse oefeningen in de vorm van workshops. In samenwerking met het publiek, evenals kunstenaars en ontwerpers uit Den Haag, moedigt Bad Penny Publications nieuwe vormen van onderzoek aan door een platform te creëren waar willekeurige gedachten en gesprekken worden
omarmd als een generatief proces van kennisproductie.

Voor de zomereditie werkt Bad Penny Publications in en vanuit de Centrale Bibliotheek van Den Haag tijdens juli en augustus en zal een
publicatie maken rond het thema "Taal Liefde".

Tijdens de warmte, bedrijvigheid en drukte van de zomer zal de koelere bibliotheekomgeving een ruimte worden voor reflectie in deze soms overweldigende maar gelukkigere tijd van het jaar. Met een steeds veranderende rol van bibliotheken in de samenleving, tussen onderzoekscentra en steeds meer richting gemeenschapscentra, vraagt Bad Penny Publications zich af hoe de fluisteringen tussen de boeken in de bibliotheek, de stilte en rust in deze luidruchtige ruimte van woorden, een toevluchtsoord kunnen worden voor discussies over moeilijkheden bij begrip, terwijl tegelijkertijd de mogelijke schoonheid van resulterende misverstanden wordt omarmd.
